Abiola’s Wife Gets Guber Ticket In Lagos

Latest reports indicate that one of the wives of late business mogul, Chief M.K.O. Abiola, Mrs. Dupe Onitiri-Abiola, has clinched the governorship ticket of the Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, in Lagos Sate.
According to Daily Post report,  Abiola’s wife was announced as UPN’s governorship flagbearer in Lagos during the party’s congress held on Thursday at the party’s secretariat on Unity Road in Ikeja.
Speaking after the congress, Mrs Abiola said that she had all it takes to challenge candidates of other political parties for the governorship seat.
“The UPN has been around for a very long time. This is the party that was founded by Chief Obafemi Awolowo and resuscitated by Dr Fredrick Fasheun.
“I am from the prominent Onitiri Family of Lagos and married to Abiola. I have a very great chance because the democracy Nigeria is enjoying today flows from the blood of Abiola,” an elated  Mrs Abiola said.

According to her, she was contesting for the governorship position to make a difference in the lives of Lagosians.
“I am very optimistic of winning. We are going to start from ground zero because there is nothing on ground. The UPN stands for free education, free health care, poverty reduction and infrastructural development.
“It is ironic that some of the people who claim that they fought for this democracy are not doing the right thing. They know that MKO died so that the people of this country can live well and be happy.
“If you are claiming to be part of that struggle, you have no reason to make people to suffer in this country,” she added.
Reports stated that Mrs Abiola clinched the guber ticket as a consensus candidate of UPN alongside other consensus candidates for Federal House of Representatives and State House of Assembly.

He added that Dupe Onitiri-Abiola and others are the best candidates whose antecedents and activities in the society are impeccable and so they are fit to hold any public office.
According to Ikuomol, the party’s manifestoes include free education at all levels, free health care services for all ages, affordable homes for the masses and statutory provision for persons with disability and the elderly and eradication of poverty in Lagos State.
